Research

Welcome to our research laboratory at Sewanee. We specialize in flower development, particularly saffron and Arabidopsis. Our main goal is to engage with students and the scientific community, increase research collaboration, and showcase our latest findings. We're thrilled you've decided to visit us - please browse our site to discover what we're all about.

Who We Are

Our current team is composed of 7 undergraduate student researchers. Students are divided into projects utilizing molecular techniques to have control over the gene expression of critical genes.

Research Projects

Exceeding Your Expectations

Our lab is currently investigating flower development in Saffron (Crocus Sativus). Our goal is to identify and determine the functionality of the genes that regulate floral development.

ABC gene model for flower development.

We are cloning saffron's genes that are very similar to genes that are critical for flower development in Arabidopsis thaliana. We are always looking for opportunities to work with other researchers and institutions to further our understanding of flower development.
